Interview with Dr. Wolf-Dieter Storl on June 24, 2016

Newsletter July 2015
Dear Friends,

I just returned from the 12th International Herb Symposium at Wheaton College, on the outskirts of Boston, where I was invited to hold a lecture and a workshop. A colorful, highly motivated, courageous and inspired group of about one thousand alternative doctors, healing plant teachers, wise women, plant medicine producers, ethnobotanists and authors from all over the world gathered to defy huge pharmaceutical companies, who are obviously not interested in anyone's well-being but only in power and money. There were also lawyers there who - to a degree with tangible success - fight against laws that forbid the use of healing plants and make it possible to arrest midwives and herbal healers for illegal practice of medicine. Such draconic legal accusations can happen to anyone who recommends chamomile tea to a neighbor with a stomachache to a farmer who sells immune strengthening beestings (colostrum: the first milk after a cow has calved) for a sick person.

A film in the making
A film in the making A film in the making

As of July 22nd, we—a small film team—are headed out to see what we can find out about herbalism in America. Plant medicine is practically forbidden in the States, but despite that, there are a lot of plant medicine people working diligently to further the most ancient form of healing known on earth, i.e. healing with plants.

We will meet healers among the Native Americans and plant wizards and witches (of the good kind!) from various parts of the country. In Anaconda, Montana, we will be at the yearly Montana Herb Gathering (22nd-25th of July), where we will meet up with wise women of herbal lore, curanderos, plant experts and salve makers. I will also be holding courses there.

After the meeting, we will drive through Yellowstone Park, on to the Teton Mountains and then on across the prairie to the woodlands in Wisconsin. We will be stopping to film every wonderful sight that presents itself, the beautiful nature there, the wildlife and of course, the plants. This and much more we hope to show in our road movie documentary with the working title: “America’s Secret Apothecary”.

In Menomonie Wisconsin, we will be filming with an old gardener friend of mine, Larry Berger. I will also hold a seminar there from Aug. 5th-7th. And Larry will also show us some of the fantastic gardens in the area. The last leg of the journey will be a visit to my family in Illinois, near the Mississippi.

I will be reporting what I learn about plants and what else is going on in the country in the realm of herbs and healing.

We will report here regularly, so, if it sounds interesting to you, do check in from time to time!
